An affordable housing development in St Stephen has been completed and residents are ready to move in.

Leading housing association LiveWest joined forces with St Austell-based contractor Gilbert & Goode to build the 24-home development.

The 100% affordable scheme has seven homes for shared ownership and 17 for rent, including a mix of one-bedroom flats and two and three-bedroom houses.

The development comes more than nine years after LiveWest completed phase one of the site.

The development was supported with grant funding of £960k from Cornwall Council.

It is one of a number of projects supported by the council as part of a wider affordable housing funding programme which has delivered 167 new homes across Cornwall.

Robert Cock, head of delivery at LiveWest, said: “This was our first scheme with the local builder Gilbert and Goode and they were excellent to work with.

“The site team had a great attitude and were always keen to help wherever they could.

“It has been nine years since our previous affordable scheme in St Stephen and this has been extremely popular with the two-bedroom rented homes alone attracting 114 bids.

“The scheme demonstrates our continued commitment to provide affordable housing for local people in areas of high need.”

Pete Sadler, MD for Gilbert & Goode, added: “I am extremely proud of what the team has achieved at this scheme.

“They are an attractive collection of properties which provide much-needed family homes for people in the St Stephen area. I hope the new residents will be very happy in their new homes.”
