A popular Cornish beach shack, originally located in Hayle, is opening a new pop-up restaurant on the beach in Gwithian.

Lula, which opened in Hayle in 2020, has built a large following thanks to its relaxed beachside dining with dishes and cocktails inspired by America’s deep south.

The new restaurant will be located at The Rockpool bar, at the north end of Gwithian Beach. It will be open from the evening of this Friday (July 7).

Sam Sheffield, who created and continues to run Lula, commented: “We are over the moon to be bringing the Lula vibe to a new spot this summer – and what a spot! The Rockpool is right in the dunes, with views across the beach.

“Lula holds a special place in the hearts of so many people, and it’s been so sad to see the doors closed on our original shack for reasons entirely beyond our control. We’re ecstatic to be able to host our brilliant shackers once again.”

Guests can expect locally-caught seafood, cocktails and sundown beers, served to a soundtrack of live music. The new restaurant will be open daily from 9am to 11:30am for breakfast, and 12pm to 8pm for lunch and dinner. Bookings can be made in advance by calling 01326 653653.

James Morgan, who is responsible for The Rockpool, commented: “We believe in looking out for your neighbours, and knowing LULA needed help we were keen to step in and offer them a place to call home.

“It’s a tricky time for the hospitality industry and we need to look after one another. We’re all very excited to welcome LULA to The Rockpool – we love their food and good vibes and think the shackers will love us too. We can’t wait to see you all down at The Rockpool.”
