The owners of the Lanhydrock Hotel and Golf Club in Bodmin have been working tirelessly through lockdown to ensure the business can reopen looking its best.

“It’s hard to put into words how difficult the last year has been for us, but since March 2020 we’ve been determined to stay optimistic and front-footed,” said director Clare Bond.

“Without question, it’s been the hardest period we’ve ever had to navigate, but we’re proud to have worked non-stop throughout the lockdowns to make sure we can not only safeguard our business, but reopen even better than before and continue to provide local employment.”

Clare, her husband Graham Bond and son Christian have lived in at the hotel throughout the various lockdowns and have taken on ambitious projects which they are excited to unveil to visitors.

“We are currently refurbishing the reception area along with two superior suites, as well as working through all of the hotel rooms,” she said. “Each one has had various touch-ups and they look great! We’re using lots of exciting bright colours, all new upholstery and repainting our lovely Lloyd Loom chairs. We want everything looking its absolute best for when we can welcome our guests again.”

Improvements to the golfing grounds include drainage work, bunker reconstruction and re-turfing the 2nd, 8th, 9th and 18th holes. A mixture of trees and flowers have been planted in the grounds along the Kirland road hedge to support local wildlife. Substantial work has also been done with mature tree management around the course and range.

Bond says one of the best outcomes of Lanhydrock’s renovations has been its support of local trades throughout the process. “In these tremendously difficult times, it’s amazing to be able to support and give work to local trades people and businesses,” she commented.

Among the individuals and businesses employed by the Hotel and Golf Club were Trelawney Garden Supplies, Richard Hollister (a local Upholsterer in Bodmin), Jake Charles (painter and decorator), Ann Smith of Coloursmiths Interior Design, Mason & Kings and WH Bond.

“We are very excited about our golf course opening on the 29th March, and Hotel and dining from the 17th May. There’s a real buzz in the air and it will be an amazing day when we see our golf course being enjoyed, familiar faces enjoying lunch and guests being checked into our hotel. What a year it has been, but we continue to look forward to the future.”
