Pirate FM is being rebranded as Hits Radio Cornwall from April and moving over to being available on digital only.

Its existing FM slots – 102.2 (Caradon Hill) and 102.8 (Redruth) – will be taken by Greatest Hits Radio Cornwall.

Both stations will be available on DAB digital radio, online and via smart speakers and will continue to provide local news and information for Cornwall.

Gary Stein, group programme director for the Hits Radio Portfolio, said: “Pirate FM is a well-loved and recognised station identity within Cornwall and we want to build on its fantastic success and secure its future by transforming it into a nationally recognised brand, bolstered by a national marketing campaign to ensure it has even more opportunity to grow.

“Alongside its local Breakfast show hosted by Neil and Saffy and local news and information, we’re excited for audiences to have access to new programmes from some big name broadcasters, both on Hits Radio Cornwall and Greatest Hits Radio Cornwall which shall take over Pirate FM’s current FM slot.”

However, Hits Radio said the “changes do unfortunately mean that a small number of roles will be put into consultation and freelance contracts reviewed,” adding: “Bauer Media Group is fully committed to supporting all affected individuals throughout this period.”
