Following a competitive application process, First Light has been selected to take part in this year’s Big Give Women and Girls Match Funding campaign.

The charity is aiming to raise £5k in just one week to support its sexual violence services. To achieve this, it needs to raise £2.5k in online donations which will then be matched by the Big Give.

More women and girls than ever before are reaching out to First Light after experiencing sexual violence. The charity dealt with nearly 3,000 enquiries last year and overwhelmed services mean that waiting lists for vital support are growing. Delays in police investigations and court hearings also mean that many victims are waiting up to two years for any prospect of closure.

To help First Light to increase their capacity, cut down waiting lists and ensure help is there for every woman and girl whenever they need it, you can donate to its Big Give campaign page here. The campaign is live until 12pm on October 18.

Thanks to the Big Give, donations to First Light during the next week will be matched, meaning your money can support twice as many women and girls affected by sexual violence.

Anna Mitchell, fundraising officer at First Light, said: “For this year’s Big Give campaign, we’re looking to raise a total of £5k. To achieve this, we need to raise £2.5k in online donations. This money will support 70 women and girls, funding urgent therapy and crisis support, empowering them to take the first steps on their road to recovery.

“At First Light, we don’t believe anybody should have to wait for support. We need your help to ensure support is there for everyone, whenever they need it.”
