Business Cornwall: Why was the business founded?

Having been a provider of mobile solutions to the business community, Pastel quickly built a reputation for second to none customer service and trust which, at that time of mobile sales was, to a large extent an enigma.

As a result, this attracted a number of solution providers to the Care sector, which being a very tough and demanding sector in which to operate was a real accomplishment.

Pastel grew quickly into the space and now provide both mobile and fixed line telephony services into approaching 300 care businesses throughout the UK.

This challenging and formidable sector, coupled with our approach to customer service has proven to be the bedrock of our business and facilitated future growth into almost every sector whilst we continued to develop further business solutions in both cloud-based telecommunications and energy.

We felt that the true spirit of becoming a day to day operational partner of customers businesses was missing and so we both founded and continue to base our business values at the forefront of this endeavour.

Business Cornwall: How does the business compare to competitors in the industry?

There are a number of businesses providing telecoms services and the sub portfolios of IP and mobile centric services. However, we are specialists in this particular field and our service isn’t diluted by providing other IT services as a ‘one stop shop’ for all ‘IT and comms’.

Businesses are moving away from the big national providers and looking for local specialists who are approachable, proactive, responsive and demonstrate they really care about their customers.

True customer service and trust. We have a significant number of businesses who have been with us since the start and whilst we continue to grow, we have not lost sight of those customers and their specific needs.

Business Cornwall: What are the business’s plans both short-term and long-term?

As with the majority of businesses in the current challenging climate we are ensuring we continue to operate as efficiently as possible to protect our staff, local employment and our supply chain whilst we support our current customers. We are perhaps one of the few businesses in our sector recruiting and in fact have a new specialist starting work with us in Cornwall this month.

It’s difficult to predict what’s going to happen over the longer term purely because of so much uncertainty in the marketplace. However, we are uniquely placed to provide cost effective, flexible and safe business solutions to businesses of all sizes from all sectors saving them money and operational and financial certainty which is critically important right now.

With many businesses now operating with many staff working from home, Pastel’s cloud-based telephone system provides a fully connected system enabling the whole workforce to be connected to the same system as if they were in the office together. This is and will continue to be an important consideration for businesses for the foreseeable future.

We will continue to develop solutions in both fixed and mobile telephone systems and provide efficient energy packages for our customers and the wider marketplace whilst operating within safe environmental limits and delivering social value defined within the Sustainable Economy Framework.

Business Cornwall: How does the business define success?

I would suggest that Pastel are extremely fortunate to develop such relationships with our customers that they come to us again and again as their own businesses grow and change shape and recommend our business to colleagues, business associates, suppliers, friends and family but whilst we are lucky this happens frequently, we work very hard at ensuring our customers see us as a part of their business. Hence, if our customers are successful and we have played a small role in delivering this success we define this as success for us.

Albeit providing national coverage, we pride ourself on employing local people, and supporting local communities wherever we’re working.
