Shipwreck Treasure Museum’s festive Tunnel of Lights event is set to return later this month.

The Charlestown attraction will host the ever-popular immersive event on selected dates and times from Saturday November 25 through to Sunday December 24.

This will be the Tunnel of Lights’ fifth year and will see the award-winning museum transformed in its entirety, including the network of historic tunnels beneath the building, into a festive wonderland.

It’s an event that has become a significant one for the business. Museum director Alex Smit said: “Taking over the Shipwreck Treasure Museum in 2016, it was a very seasonal attraction. Five years ago, we introduced the Tunnel Lights event in a bid to extend the season and generate more employment locally to prepare for the event and to operate it at a time where we’d normally be closed.

“It also helps to bring more people to Charlestown out of season which benefits the wider business community in the village.

“This special event has continued to develop and grow and has become a firm favourite with families. For many it has become a part of their annual Christmas celebrations. The first Tunnel of Lights event attracted 6,000 people, this year we expect to welcome around 25,000 visitors. December is now our busiest month, and the event contributes over 40% of our annual turnover each year.”
