Portreath on the north Cornish coast is set to give much-loved visitor favourites such as St Ives, Padstow and Newquay, some friendly competition having been revealed by TripAdvisor UK as one of Europe’s top emerging hotspots.

Over the last 12 months, interest in the village on TripAdvisor UK has increased more than any other European destination, bar Lacock in Wiltshire which topped the list.

Malcolm Bell, head of VisitCornwall, said: “Cornwall is a beautiful county and is full of varied and interesting places to visit. Portreath may not be as well-known as some of its neighbours but it has all the ingredients for the perfect holiday so it’s no surprise that visitors are tuning in to what it can offer.

“We welcome visitors to explore different parts of the county and hope that the title as one of Europe’s top emerging destinations will encourage new visitors into the area.”

The top ten list, which is based on UK site data, purely features British and Irish destinations. Less fashionable entries mention Scotland’s East Kilbride in third place, and Doncaster in ninth.
