Newquay Cornwall Airport is scrapping its controversial parking fee for people picking up and dropping off passengers.
The airport introduced a minimum £1 charge in March this year, a move which was described as “absolutely bonkers” by local MP Stephen Gilbert.
He feared that the road outside the airport would become dangerous, with people leaping out to avoid the fee.
But the airport announced today that from Monday December 23, the first ten minutes parking will be free. For stays over ten minutes, but less than 30, a £1 fee will be charged.
The new charges will clearly be communicated on the payment machines which are situated in both car parks and also in the arrivals hall.
