Newquay Town Council, Newquay BID and Cornwall Council have joined forces to launch a social media campaign highlighting the importance of local organisations working together during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The #WeAreNewquay campaign recognises that family, friends, neighbours, volunteer community groups, business and accommodation providers in Newquay are all doing their bit to help each other during this difficult time. The aim of the campaign is to spread awareness of what individuals and groups are doing to help others, no matter how big or small, to highlight what a fantastic community Newquay is and to show appreciation for the town and its residents.
Newquay Town Council, Newquay BID, Newquay & St Columb Community Network (Cornwall Council) and partners continue to work tirelessly to deliver their vital services and respond to the situation as it evolves each day. They now want to make #WeAreNewquay a town wide campaign that all businesses, organisations and individuals can feed in to, because together we are stronger.
Newquay BID manager, Carla Marie Jones, explained: “What some of the town’s businesses and members of the community are doing during this time is truly remarkable.
“We are really proud to be part of such a vibrant, resilient network and we are constantly amazed at the creativity, innovation and spirit continually demonstrated. The community spirit has been heartfelt and moving and we are sure this will continue throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
There has never been a more apt time that our organisations should be collaborating and we are delighted to be working with Newquay Town Council and Cornwall Council on this social media campaign.”
Cllr Louis Gardner, deputy mayor of Newquay, added: “The current pandemic has brought out the true spirit of community in the residents of Newquay. I have been truly amazing by the acts of kindness, compassion and generosity that are occurring throughout the town. Businesses, groups and individuals in all walks of life continue to put the welfare of others before themselves. Residents of Newquay should be proud of the way have adapted and overcome in the face of adversity.”
It is good that the community of Newquay has come together in this stressful time. But I am sure that residents would appreciate extra information such how to contact the various support groups, what these groups can offer, maybe a central number with the ability to point callers in the right direction to solve a particular problem, which shops are offering a delivery service etc, etc.
I write as an elderly resident who has been self isolating since before it became mandatory.
