A high-end fitness tool developed by a Cornish company is featuring on a new comedy series on Netflix.
‘The Crew’ follows a NASCAR team as they embark on a season of racing with a new and innovation-led CEO (the ex-CEO’s daughter).
Kevin James (‘Hitch’ and ‘King of Queens’) leads the squad as they struggle to adapt their old ways to a new technology driven future.
And helping them in this quest, is a CardioWall Pro-X from Bodmin-based Rugged Interactive.
Rugged Interactive founder, Simon Heap, said: “We were delighted when Netflix reached out to us and asked if they could use one of our Pro-X products in the series to demonstrate what a cutting edge racing team would use if they were to go out and buy the very best training equipment.
“As we have a record of supplying elite sports teams and athletes, such as Racing Point F1, Anthony Joshua, Manchester City, Porsche and others, we were happy to help out.”
The product was shipped at the beginning of last year to their New York studios and filmed around lockdown. Series two is waiting to be Greenlit and the Pro-X is again part of their plans.
“It’s fantastic to be involved in a global series of course, and the coverage that Netflix brings with their millions of viewers, not to mention the international fanbase of NASCAR should really kickstart our sales in the US particularly over the next few months,” added Heap.
“Business wise, it’s been an ‘interesting’ few months, and although the UK schools market has been buoyant for us, exports have been trickier with both the pandemic and Brexit affecting sales.”
Rugged Interactive designs and manufactures products for schools, active fun, elite sport, wellness and active ageing.
Set up in 2009 by product designer Simon Heap after his work with Team GB designing products for multiple Olympic squads, the company appeared on Dragons’ Den and was offered investment (turned down afterwards) and has gone on to sell its products in 30 countries around the world as well as the UK.
The Netflix series ’The Crew’ airs from March 15 and all episodes are available now.
