Cornwall’s business support programme, Unlocking Potential, is bringing together local businesses, national experts and researchers for a morning of innovation, inspiration and networking at the FibreHub in Pool.

Part of its Future Focus programme,  ‘Manufacturing a Better Future’ on March 11 will not only address today’s challenges, such as supply chain disruptions and skills shortages, but also talk about how advanced materials and industrial digitalisation are helping manufacturers become increasingly sustainable as they pursue net carbon zero.

The half-day event has been created in partnership with Cornwall Manufacturers Group (CMG)’s CEO, Jon Hurrell, to make sure it meets the needs of manufacturers in Cornwall. It will combine speakers, case studies, interactive Q&A with panel discussion, and an exhibitor space to encourage sector-based conversations and collaboration. Unlocking Potential’s own team of digital innovators will also be on hand to discuss the numerous ways of using technology to create advanced, sustainable manufacturing methods.

Organisers are particularly excited to welcome experts from the world-leading National Composites Centre (NCC) in Bristol. Leah Rider (head of SME delivery), Jonathan Butt (deputy chief engineer – digital), James Helm (technology programme manager – SME projects) and Kyle Pender (advanced research engineer – sustainability) will all deliver sessions on advanced materials, net zero, sustainability and industrial digitalisation.

Hurrell said: “Our members contribute £150 million to the Cornwall economy and employ over 3,500 people. The diversity of production represented by our members, 98% exported out of county, demonstrates our contribution to, and impact on, the UK economy.

“Being able to welcome guests from the NCC marks this event out as an unmissable opportunity for manufacturers in Cornwall to hear about, and be inspired by, cutting-edge manufacturing practice and thinking.”
