Cornwall-based digital training provider Digital Peninsula Network (DPN) has looked back on a successful first six months of running digital skills webinars aimed at small businesses.

The webinars, part of the Progressing Businesses through Digital Skills project, were developed in mid-2021 in response to feedback from Cornish businesses citing time, covid restrictions and geographical constraints being a barrier to accessing training.

DPN launched a series of monthly two-hour webinars giving small businesses practical digital training in high-demand marketing areas to bring skills in-house and help reduce external costs.

Interest in the webinars has been significant. Topics delivered to date have included: how to create a Facebook Business Page, using video for business, Search Engine Optimisation, and Facebook Advertising.

Progressing Businesses through Digital Skills project manager from DPN, Lizzie Trudgeon, said: “The success of our webinar series indicates that Cornish businesses, especially micro businesses and sole-traders, are crying out for digital skills training. Learning a new skill through bite sized, online sessions has offered a positive solution allowing time-constrained and remote businesses to access upskilling opportunities online.”

Building on the success of last year, DPN will continue to run monthly digital skills webinars throughout 2022. New webinars include email marketing, Instagram for businesses, and mobile video editing.

Trudgeon continued: “We’re working hard to meet the demand and develop more webinars around the digital marketing topics relevant to local businesses. 2022 is set to be an exciting year and we’re looking forward to levelling up more of Cornwall’s entrepreneurs digitally through the project.”

The Progressing Businesses through Digital Skills project, which is part-funded by the European Social Fund, will run until 2023 and provides funded training opportunities for up to 688 individuals with 304 people expected to obtain qualifications in digital subjects and basic skills helping at least 450 small businesses operating sector-wide across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
