Having gifted laptops and other IT equipment to schools in the Falklands last year, Andy Trish, managing director of Falmouth-based NCI Technologies, returns this week as the ‘guest of honour’ to further empower digital learning for the 450 children on the islands.

He will be installing interactive touchscreens for all schools across both the east and west islands as part of the second stage of a transformational ICT project, funded by the Belling Trust, NCI and partners.

A veteran of the Falklands War, Trish has a strong bond with the islands. “The Falkland Islands is a place close to my heart,” he said, “and upon visiting the children I was inspired by their tenacity and resourcefulness, as they battled with ageing computers and poor internet.

“Teachers were also struggling to help the children progress and raise their aspirations without access to modern technology and communications that can help develop skills for better work prospects.  So, we set about fundraising and garnering support from our supplier network.”
