Truro and Penwith College’s REACH Cornwall and Hospitality Table Cornwall projects, two strands of ESF Business Clusters, are joining forces to host Celebrating Diversity.

The event, during Pride month and close to the 75th anniversary of Windrush, which has a mini festival vibe, will focus on creating more diverse and inclusive workplaces to support recruitment and retention in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The event is taking place on Monday June 26 at Heartlands, Pool from 9am-4:30pm, with breakfast courtesy of the Chamber of Commerce strand of ESF Business Clusters from 8:30am.

Celebrating Diversity will be opened with a comedy set from Aaron Simmonds, a stand-up comedian who was born with cerebral palsy, but won’t let his disability define him. Having appeared on The Russell Howard Hour and performed at Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Simmonds describes himself as ‘a comedian going places – places that are wheelchair accessible’.

It will also include a theatre performance by Emily Faulkner, Claud Tonietto and Berenice Cruse developed specifically for this event. Through storytelling and movement, they will explore LGBTQ+ experiences in the workplace, inspired by real life accounts.

And there will be talks from Beresford Lee, CEO of Rice and Peas Community CIC, on Racial Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and Matthew Kenworthy Gomes, CEO of Cornwall Pride, who will be exploring how their viewpoint of ‘No One Is Left Behind’ can be taken forwards to make Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly an inclusive and beautiful place to live and work for all.

The event will include three workshops, offering the opportunity to discuss and explore further how to create workplaces which are more diverse and inclusive.

The event, which is open to employers across all sectors, will also offer the opportunity to connect with exhibitors from local communities, discover further training and development opportunities through organisations attending, including Truro and Penwith College.

Celebrating Diversity will be livestreamed via CHAOS TV allowing anyone interested to watch most of the event as it happens and everyone to benefit from viewing the replay afterwards.
