Ocean Fish scooped product of the year at the Marine Stewardship Council’s annual UK Awards.
The Victoria-based wholesaler won the award for its Cornish Hake with Smoked Garlic Butter from its Hook, Line and Sinker range, which is available from Ocado.
This is the second year in a row Ocean Fish has won Product of the Year. Last year’s winner was Cornish Sardines with Mediterranean Marinade, also from the Hook Line and Sinker range.
The products were both developed in collaboration with Cornish chef James Strawbridge, who is an MSC UK Ambassador and strong advocate for sustainable and locally caught seafood.
Victoria Townsend, Ocean Fish retail director, said: “The mission was clear, we wanted to see more British fish on British plates. Our MSC Cornish Hake with Smoked Garlic Butter was designed to be a viable alternative to cod with a competitive price point, that made the swap to a UK species a natural and sustainable choice.
“We felt strongly that the hake should also be identified as Cornish. As one of the core species landed in Cornwall, we wanted to ensure the product was grounded to the geography and long fishing history in Cornwall.”
