Rosemullion named housebuilder of the year

A Cornish company has beaten off national competition to be crowned Britain’s ‘Housebuilder of the Year’.

Truro-based Rosemullion Homes picked up the main award at the What House? Awards 2008, which rewards the very best in British housebuilding.

Rosemullion Homes were chosen above its national peers by a judging panel that included some of the country’s leading architects and building journalists.

Held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London with over 1,000 people in attendance, Rosemullion Homes also scooped four other awards in what turned out to be a successful trip to the capital.

On hand to collect the awards handed out by the host of BBC 2’s ‘Mock the Week’, Dara O’Briain, were director’s Bruce Brooke-Smith, Ray Trebilcock and Duncan Cumberland, and PA, Jenny Ellis.

“The What House? awards are the property sector’s Oscars, so this is such a huge achievement for us,” said Rosemullion’s land and planning director, Bruce Brooke-Smith.

“We thought we had a chance of picking up an award for one of the categories we’d entered, but to win five awards and be named Housebuilder of the Year is just incredible.

“But we were only able to win that after picking up Small Housebuilder of the Year, which was an achievement in itself as this was the most hotly contested category on the day.

“It really goes to show that by having a quality product and a fantastic team behind it, that a Cornish business can have a national impact.”

As well as the high quality of the company’s developments, its commitment to sustainability and affordable houses, Rosemullion was highly praised by the judges: “The Housebuilder of the Year is the most prestigious prize in British housebuilding, the ultimate new homes accolade, and it went to Rosemullion Homes – sheer Cornish quality from start to finish.”

The judges also stated that Rosemullion was ‘a worthy winner of the industry’s biggest trophy’.

The company also picked up gold awards for Best Small Housebuilder and Best Development for its Belvedere site in Truro, as well as silver for Best Exterior Design for Belvedere, and a bronze award for Sustainable Developer of the Year.

“It is finally beginning to sink in that the What House? judges have decided to agree with what I have been saying for years – that Rosemullion Homes is the best housebuilder in the UK!,” said managing director, Roger Carson.

“Coming down to earth it is of course a fantastic achievement for the company to be recognised as House Builder of the Year, and I’m proud of our whole team.”
