Children’s ethical clothing designer Frugi has teamed up with Falmouth University which is the hosting the brand’s location for its Back to School outerwear range in the Autumn/Winter ‘22 collection.

About half of Frugi’s current creative team consists of Falmouth University photography alumni who have returned to their roots for Frugi’s Autumn campaign.

The Helston-based company based its entire shoot at Falmouth’s Fox Gardens – a location renowned for its tropical plants, lush gardens, and whimsical pathways.

Falmouth University BA Fashion Photography students Sinead Flanagan and Gee Frye were invited to assist on the shoot to experience a commercial shoot environment through Falmouth lecturer and mentor Jonathan Simms, a tutor for one of Frugi’s photography team.

Falmouth University has taken great steps in recent years to embed sustainability into teaching and learning throughout the institution’s courses and this year, the Fashion and Textiles Institute has launched an online MA in Sustainable Fashion.

Course leader Tom Crisp commented: “Sustainability is a core area in our learning and teaching at Falmouth, so it’s nice to see a Cornish brand like Frugi incorporating the principles of sustainable fashion into their design process.

“It’s also wonderful that Frugi’s creative team have a strong connection with Falmouth and that they’ve chosen our campus for their Autumn collection’s photography location. Our students and graduates are passionate about creativity and collaboration – it’s great to see them play their part in the development of the Autumn campaign for a well-respected UK brand based here in Cornwall.”

Frugi’s head of design, Jeni Bolton, added: “We know how important ethical fashion and product design are to our customers and Falmouth’s own values of innovation and creativity mirror our own.

“Not only was Falmouth’s Fox Gardens an ideal location to shoot our next collection but it was fantastic for some of our photography team to return to the place where they learned their craft. Cornwall is home to a wonderfully entrepreneurial and creative community, and it is a privilege for Frugi be a part of it.”
