His Royal Highness Prince Charles was in Cornwall yesterday, visiting the home of Yarg and Cornish Kern cheeses, Lynher Dairies.

Dairy owner Catherine Mead OBE, who led the tour of the cheesemaking process, including the all-important nettling of the Yarg, said: “It is a huge honour to welcome HRH The Duke of Cornwall to Lynher Dairies.

“His Royal Highness has had a longstanding commitment towards sustainable farming and food production. As chair of the Specialist Cheesemakers Association, we are privileged to have such a firm advocate of craft cheesemaking as patron of The Specialist Cheesemakers Association.”

Unveiling a plaque to commemorate 30 years of cheesemaking by Lynher Dairies, The Duke of Cornwall was thanked for his commitment and his interest in specialist cheese making. He heard how the SCA has represented the specialist makers in the face of technical and quality challenges, supporting continuous development and particularly helping new entrants into cheese making.

On departure, His Royal Highness commented: “As patron of the Specialist Cheesemakers Association I could not be more proud of you all.”
