The awards ceremony (December 4) will welcome independent sustainability and environment advisor Tony Juniper along with Munish Datta, the man behind the strategy and delivery of M&S’s sustainability programme, Plan A.

Veryan Jones, Cornwall Council’s senior environment officer and event organiser, said: “It’s exciting to have two speakers with such a wide breath of knowledge in the sustainable and environmental industry.”

Tony Juniper is special advisor to the Prince’s Charities International Sustainability Unit and has a number of accolades under his belt.

In 2009 he was awarded the first ever Charles and Miriam Rothschild medal honoring outstanding achievements in conservation of the natural environment.

However Juniper’s profile extends well beyond the world of sustainability consultancy, with a number of books under his wing including the multi-award best seller winning ‘What has Nature ever done for us?’

Munish Datta heads up the team that delivers facilities management for the Marks & Spencer’s Global HQ in London. He not only launched multi-award winning sustainable retail stores across the UK but he has also enabled the retailer to become 34% more energy efficient, 27% more water efficient and divert all waste from landfill.

Awards organiser, Gitty Ankers MBE, who works for the Environment Agency, said: “For the last 25 years both speakers have spent time seeking change towards a more sustainable society, at local, national and international levels, so it will be incredibly interesting to hear from such esteemed professionals.”

Taking place on Thursday, December 4 at the Headland Hotel in Newquay, the award ceremony recognises the work that businesses in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly do to become more sustainable and environmentally friendly.

Businesses from across Cornwall are competing in the competition’s ten categories including Best Managed Company, Sustainable Energy, Resource Efficiency, Sustainable Built Environment, Sustainable Food Economy, Best Individual, Tomorrow’s Contribution to Sustainability and finally the Theme of 2014: Connecting with Nature.

The winners will be announced during the day at the event. For more details and to book a ticket click here.
