Businesses from the automotive and electrical sectors across Cornwall are being invited to a special electric vehicle taster event next week.

CCB Training part of The Cornwall College Group (TCCG), is hosting a free-to-attend taster evening on Tuesday (Oct 12) at Cornwall College St Austell’s new Electric Vehicle Training Centre.

Project manager, Steve Caldwell, said: “Through our EV Project, ‘Skills Accelerator Development Fund, Electric Vehicle,’ we have invested £1.2 million in new electric vehicle training opportunities at our St Austell and Camborne campuses.

“Now that our brand-new Electric Vehicle Training Centre is complete we are delighted to welcome the auto and electrical sectors to tour our EV workshop learning zone plus, have a go in our exciting Electude Electric/hybrid learning lab.”

Attendees at the event will hear from industry experts about how the automotive sector is changing in readiness for the 2030 cut off for sales of petrol and diesel vehicles in the UK. Guest speakers including, John Evans, TCCG’s principal and chief executive, will speak about the scale of commitment to, and investment in, EV training facilities and technology.

Tim Bryant from BYD Europe will share his expert insight of electric vehicles from his time working with Tesla and now with BYD, while Matthew Trevaskis, founder of EcoDrive and Drivenergy, will discuss EV charge point opportunities.

There will also be insights into CCB’s Automotive Business Grants.

New courses now available at the Electric Vehicle Training Centre include:

  • Level 1 award in electrical/hybrid vehicle awareness
  • Level 2 award in electrical/ hybrid vehicle hazard management
  • Level 3 award in electrical/hybrid vehicle system repair and replacement
  • Level 4 award in diagnosis, testing, and repair of electric/hybrid vehicles and components.
