Truro is taking part in new national shop local campaign next month – The Magic Tenner.

The Magic Tenner, which follows on from the success of the ‘Fiver Fest ‘campaign, will be held in more than 50 towns across the country from October 7-21.

Shops and businesses will be collaborating to offer a whole range of £10 deals to get people out onto the high street, and to give a boost to the local economy.

“But that boost is much bigger than just the £10 you spend,” said Truro BID manager, Alun Jones, “because most independent businesses buy from many other local businesses, too.

“So, when you spend £10 with one, it enables them to keep buying from those suppliers – the money goes round and round Truro’s local economy. “

This circular effect is backed up by The New Economics Foundation, whose study found that £10 spent in a local independent business means up to £50 goes back into the local economy due to it being re-spent over and over.

In Truro, Magic Tenner offers include £10 for coffee and cake for two people, a selection of Cornish hand-crafted gifts, other gift ideas including a Cornish Keynvor tin candle with a bar of Josh’s Cornish chocolate for £10, lunchtime specials, along with discounted beer, wine and cocktails.
