Canon Simon Robinson will be installed as the sixth Dean of Truro by the Bishop of St Germans, The Right Rev’d Hugh Nelson, on January 21.
The installation will be included in a Choral Evensong service which starts at 4pm in Truro Cathedral. Canon Simon Robinson has been with Truro Cathedral since October 2022 firstly as Interim Dean, then recently appointed as Dean-Designate.
The Reverend Prebendary Stephen Stuckes, Rector of the Cuckmere Churches in the Diocese of Chichester will preach at this service. The service will be sung by Truro Cathedral Choir, and the music will include, by request of Canon Simon, ‘Magnificat’ and ‘Nunc Dimitiis’ composed by previous cathedral resident composer Dobrinka Tabakova.
All are invited to join this celebratory service. There will be a reception after the service with refreshments where there will be an opportunity to chat and meet after Evensong and the Installation.
Canon Simon was previously Vicar of Minehead and has a long history, prior to ordination, of senior leadership in the education sector. He has also been the chair of the Diocesan Board of Education for the Diocese of Bath and Wells and sits on Diocesan and General Synod and various trust boards, both church and community.
In 2021 he completed the Strategic Leadership Development Programme, a five-year programme for clergy identified as potential future leaders on a strategic and senior level. He is a national selector for candidates for ordination.
Rt Revd Hugh Nelson, Bishop of St Germans, said “After more than a year as Interim Dean, I have come to admire and value Dean Simon’s gifts as a pastor, leader, and disciple of Jesus Christ. I am absolutely delighted to be formalising his role in Cornwall’s wonderful cathedral and am deeply grateful that he has responded to the call to serve in Truro.”
