A recent event in Truro brought together some of the most forward-thinking social media types at the south west’s first Social Media Cafe.
The Cornwall Social Media Cafe, which was held at Zafiros Bar on Thursday 9th April, attracted over 15 people and has been heralded a great success by organisers and guests.
The first event, which was designed to be informal, attracted people from a range of businesses, across the county, with a shared interested in social media or online social networking.
Social Media Cafes, also known as Tuttle Clubs, were first started in London last year and regular gatherings have spread to other major cities including Manchester and Reading.
Aren Grimshaw, Head of Social Media at teamed up with Laura McKay, Senior Account Executive at Deborah Clark Associates to make the Social Media Cafe concept a reality in Cornwall.
Commenting on the success of the first event, Aren said: “I’m delighted that so many local innovators came together to make the first event a success. The feedback has shown that there is demand make the Cornwall Social Media Cafe a regular date in the diary.
“There was a real range of people; some who had firmly embraced social media into their business plans and others who simply came along to learn more. Either way, it looks like Cornwall is leading the way in the use of innovative technologies, business and marketing practices.”
Aren added: “Plans are already under way for the next event and we’re encouraging people interested in going to share their opinions on the date and venue and we’d also be delighted to hear from speakers who are up for sharing their social media experiences.”
