A Cornish aerial photography company has added the latest technology to its drone filming services.
The new FPV (first-person view) service from Helston-based Bad Wolf Horizon is said to be the first of its kind in Cornwall, claiming to offer a “completely new look” to drone cinematography.
The drones are flown manually using FPV goggles, and due to their small size and manoeuvrability, director Tom Wadsworth says they can produce some stunning results.
“These drones are completely different from readily-available consumer drones that people are used to,” he said.
“With no GPS position lock, auto-levelling or obstacle avoidance sensors and with completely manual controls, this technology has a hugely steep learning curve. Although we began our training in a drone flight simulator back in December, the ‘down-time’ we have had during the Covid-19 lockdown has freed up our schedules to build, tweak, test, crash, rebuild and develop this service for our clients and we are really excited at the capabilities of this technology.
“The manual control, although difficult to master, allows for total creative freedom and a completely new look to drone cinematography – there is no other camera system in the world that can achieve these types of shots.”
