A Cornish radio station has completed a 26.2-hour radio marathon raising over £9k for two local charities.

Richard Woods, MD and weekend presenter at Rewind Radio, was accompanied by Anthony Lomas from HD Livin’, one of the charities supported by the event, and fellow Rewind Radio director, Shaun Ford, for the duration of the marathon broadcast.

The total raised smashed the initial target of £2,620 for both Children’s Hospice South West and HD Livin’, a charity raising money to build respite centres for those suffering from Huntingdon’s disease in the region.

Local businesses rallied behind the station’s effort by donating numerous items enabling three on-air and online auctions to be conducted, which raised £3,000. Businesses also sponsored hours of the challenge which, combined with donations from the public, pushed the total up to £9,166. However, this is still rising as donations continue to be made.

Woods said: “We’re not the biggest station in Cornwall, not yet, but our hearts are the biggest hearts and we wanted to make a difference. The 26.2 hours have made an incredible difference to two fantastic charities which are very close to our hearts here at Rewind Radio.

“I want to say a huge thank you to our listeners, to our team and support from businesses, including our main sponsors Frame UK and Perran Trusses. We are overwhelmed with the phenomenal result and the incredible support shown by the Cornish community.”
