Camborne-based Enact Energy and retail giant Tesco are on track to jointly represent the UK in the 2009 European Business Awards for the Environment following a golden achievement at the Green Apple Awards.

Enact and Tesco, who together have created the nationwide Tesco Home Insulation Service, have won a Gold Award at the International Green Apple Awards for Environmental Best Practice and Sustainable Development – one of the few accredited feeder schemes into the European awards event, which recognises today’s pioneers in green innovation.

Enact’s CEO Adrian Wright was there to pick up the Gold Award for Retail and Wholesale at the House of Commons on behalf of the partnership.

He said: “We are delighted to have won the Gold Award against a number of strong entries from other international retailers. I believe our success is reflective of the substantial commitment that Tesco have made in not only tackling their own carbon footprint, but also in taking the major step into their customers’ homes, giving them access to a low cost high quality national service to insulate their homes and from early next year, to install renewable energy technologies.”

The shortlisting for the European Business Awards shall be announced mid-December, with winners representing the UK at the Brussels European event.
