International seafood business, Ideal Foods, has signed a new supply agreement with Fife-based Mowi Consumer Products UK.

Liskeard-based Ideal Foods Ltd exports fish, shellfish and fish by-products to more than 40 countries worldwide. In the last financial year, the company sold 11,520 tonnes of fish, 87% of which was sold overseas.

As a low cost and nutritious food source, there is no shortage of demand for fish by-products including salmon heads, bellies and collars.  By securing this new supply from Mowi Consumer Products UK, Ideal Foods is able to increase its stock availability by up to an additional 5,000 tonnes per year.

MD Tony Horner said: “Over the last decade, we have been fortunate enough to see consistent year on year growth and in the last financial year, we achieved another company annual turnover record of £13.2 million.

“To enable us to continue on this growth trajectory, we had to increase our supply of products. This new partnership with Mowi has allowed us to do this.”

Mowi CP UK is one of the largest seafood companies in the UK. Its parent company, Mowi ASA, is responsible for fulfilling one fifth of global demand for farm-raised Atlantic salmon.
