Cornwall Chamber CEO Kim Conchie

The Cornwall Chamber of Commerce is calling for clarity on the Government’s plans for business post-lockdown.

With the Government expected to announce an extension to the nationwide lockdown later today (April 16), CEO Kim Conchie says businesses need to know more from the Government about what will happen once restrictions are relaxed.

He said: “In order for business owners and their colleagues to retain some confidence in the future, the Government needs to set out its plan for how it will restart the country after the lockdown so business can prepare for a return to work and for a speedy acceleration out of the closure.

“This must include guidance on how to stay safe at work and clarity on the fiscal support that will remain in place to support jobs and cashflow, PPE and testing, logistics and transfer of goods.

“A rural area like Cornwall will be worst hit if people don’t know who and what they will be permitted to move around within and outside the Duchy. We need a plan for business now so we can look ahead to getting the country back on its feet swiftly.”
