A new Cornish flower wholesale business is blossoming.

After 28 years working for his family nursery business,  JT Cock + Son at Praze an Bebble in Cornwall, James Cock  has started his own specialist flower wholesale business  ‘Flowers by Clowance’ following the retirement of his parents, Alan and Fae Cock.

He sought help from OutSet Cornwall at the start of the year for new business start up advice and has since applied for funding towards a new walk-in commercial fridge, office and toilet block.

The Flowers by Clowance business model is digital based and, says Cock, highly effective.

By keeping in regular weekly contact with over 20 local growers regarding flower availability, he  sends mass emails to over 2,600 UK florists every Thursday for orders the following week.

He has also taken over many of the family business’ flower import accounts so still plans to supply wedding florists, flower festivals and DIY brides who require import flowers and floristry sundries.

He said: “Since the Brexit decision, there has never been a better opportunity to be involved in the British cut flower industry – higher and rising imported flower prices. Here in Cornwall, we have a wealth of horticulture skill and knowledge with the added advantage of a warmer climate/earlier growing season.

“My mission statement is simple; I want Flowers by Clowance to be the hub for British flowers.”
