A debut online collective auction held by a local auctioneer has proven an overwhelming success with buyers drawn from across the country and even other parts of the continent.
Truro-based Edward Buckland Ltd conducted its first ‘online timed auction’ last month in response to having to curtail its usually busy calendar of auctions staged around the county due to the ongoing pandemic.
The result smashed expectations, attracting a wide range of lots and 636 individuals registering to bid including some from as far afield as Scotland, Wales, Ireland other parts of mainland Europe.
The 261 lots entered achieved excellent prices when the timed auction concluded. Highlights included a Bobcat 322 Digger that sold for £6.7k, a former roadside diner made £5k, a Bomag 120 roller and a Hakki Pilke 37 Wood processor both reached £3.6k.
A quarter of successful purchasers came from across the river Tamar, with two lots purchased by a buyer all the way from Poland.
Whilst missing the cut, thrust and sociable nature of the successful auctions the firm usually runs, auctioneer Rob North waxed lyrical about the additional benefits that this format offers.
“Our goal as a business is to create best value for our customers and our first online auction has provided us with another opportunity to do just that,” he said.
“Motivated buyers have been attracted from a much wider area, many of whom were unlikely to have attended our auction in person. This increased market exposure has enabled us to achieve even better results for our clients.”
The next online auction is open for entries with bidding ending from 12 noon on Friday July 31.
