Truro Business Improvement District (BID) is encouraging local businesses to sign up to the Government’s Eat Out to Help Out discount scheme.

The Eat Out to Help Out Scheme will see participating businesses offer 50% discount on food and non-alcoholic drink (up to a maximum of £10 per person), all day on Mondays through to Wednesdays in August.

Customers can use the offer during the period of the scheme for as many times as they like.

Businesses will be able to claim the money back from the Government on a weekly basis and the HMRC will pay eligible claims within five working days.

Businesses can register for the Eat Out to Help Out Scheme if they sell food for immediate consumption on the premises and provide their own dining area or share a dining area with another establishment for eat-in meals. Businesses also need to be registered as a food business with the relevant local authority on or before July 7.

Takeaway only establishments, mobile food vehicles and event/function catering services cannot register for the scheme.

Truro BID manager Alun Jones said “This is a great opportunity for Truro’s businesses with a dining area and we encourage businesses to register so they can take advantage of this money saving scheme.

“We’ve been asking hospitality businesses in Truro to tell us if they are planning to participate and directing them to the promotional material that the Government has provided so that they can let their customers know they are in the scheme.

We understand that the Government will be launching a restaurant finder this week so that customers can search who is taking part. We’ve been working with our partners at Visit Truro throughout lockdown to promote businesses who were still able to trade and more recently to promote details of the businesses who have now reopened. So, once we understand what restaurant finder looks like, we’ll work with Visit Truro to see how we can promote the scheme locally.”

Eligible businesses can join the scheme here.
