Cornwall Food & Drink has been celebrating the first six months of its Great Cornish Food Store.

It marked the occasion last Friday night (Dec 16), with its first ‘shopping and supper evening’ event.

As part of the celebrations, the Penzance-based Peboryan Cakes, run by husband and wife team, Phil & Christine Jensen, were challenged with coming up with a fishy themed cake.

The magnificent flying Gurnard cake, made from lemon sponge and foraged elderflower buttercream was commissioned in honour of The Fisherman’s Mission – one of the charities supported by Cornwall Food & Drink and The Great Cornish Food Store.

On the night, Ruth Huxley (pictured), director of the organisation, presented a cheque for £3k from sales of The Great Cornish Food Book and The Great Cornish Fish Book to Gina Moore of the Mission.

She said: “Our first six months at the Great Cornish Food Store has been a real rollercoaster, and it seemed like a good moment to celebrate the massive achievement of everyone involved, but also to remind ourselves and our customers that ‘buying local’ really can have a big impact on our food industry and the whole community.”
