Coodes Solicitors has set up a dedicated team to deal with an anticipated influx of conveyancing requests from people buying new build homes.

The move has been made in response to the Government’s plans for 400,000 new homes by 2020.

Headed by chartered legal executive, Jane Stewart, the team is based in Coodes’ Truro office, but will be working across the firm’s network of offices.

Having specialised in new builds and affordable homes for the last three years, Stewart has forged close links with local developers and agents. She will work closely with conveyancing executive, Kathryn Shaw, and assistant, Sarah Hobbs.

She said: “Acting for a purchaser of a new build home presents a particular set of challenges.

“Although the basics are the same, buying a new home from a developer needs expert handling, mainly because the timescale is very tight. We understand the special care purchasers of new build properties need, and not only have the expertise but also specialist software to support us.”

Coodes partner and head of residential property, Alistair Whyte, added: “At Coodes we have adopted a strategy of developing specialisms within our growing residential property team. This is giving us a breadth of expertise across the wide range of specialisms that come under conveyancing.

“With the Government recently announcing its largest new home building programme for 40 years, and a number of developments underway in the south west, having this specialist team means we will hit the ground running.”
