Stadium hopes all but over

Hopes to build a Stadium for Cornwall appear to be all but over, following a marathon meeting of the Council’s Strategic Planning Committee yesterday.

The stadium’s hopes hinged on approval being granted for a supermarket to be built at West Langarth, which would fund the building of the stadium.

However, permission was instead granted to an alternative scheme at nearby Willow Green, while the decision on the West Langarth option was deferred for three months.

A spokesman for the developer behind the Stadium for Cornwall project said it would now “take a miracle” for it to go ahead.

Peter Marks, chairman of the Stadium for Cornwall group, said the 11-hour debate had left him “devastated, depressed and demoralised”.
