A new property design and build business has completed its first project and has £1 million worth of work in the pipeline only six months after launching.

Cornwall Design and Build, based in St Agnes, offers an integrated design, project management and building service at a fixed price – a service which local chartered architectural technologist Barry Tape felt was in high demand but not available in the area.

He turned to business coaching specialist, Oxford Innovation, when he needed guidance to establish his new venture and was mentored by Tony Everett, who has 35 years of senior experience in building companies.

Barry Tape: A successful first six months

After just six months trading, the company has already completed a large sustainable extension and refurbishment for a 1960’s home in St Agnes, worth a six-figure sum. The next 12 months are also set to be busy as the firm delivers £1 million worth of work including new homes, barn conversions, extensions and renovations.

Tape said: “I realised that what many customers want is a greatly simplified process – from design, to planning, to build – and to have it all managed by one person who has experience across all disciplines.”

After seeing the tangible results of working with a business coach, Tape, who also owns BKT Architecture, said he would recommend the Coaching for High Growth programme to other Cornish businesses.

“I found being able to discuss ideas with my coach incredibly useful,” he said. “Tony challenged my thinking, gave me confidence and also helped me think about my approach to marketing.”
