The Alverton has issued an official statement following the outbreak of a “small” fire this morning.

While four pumps were called to deal with the blaze, with firemen wearing breathing equipment, the fire was swiftly brought under control, with no casualties and only a “small amount of damage”. The hotel remains open as usual.

The statement reads: “We had a small, isolated fire in the Great Hall shortly after 9am this morning. Everyone was evacuated and safe within five minutes and the fire was fully extinguished by 11.30am.

“There is a small amount of damage to the Great Hall but all is in hand to have this repaired and back up and running as soon as possible. All functions within the next week have been contacted and accommodated for at our sister hotels. The main hotel and brasserie are unaffected and open as usual. We thank everyone for all of their support this morning.”
