Cornish law firm Coodes Solicitors has grown its team of Personal Injury (PI) specialists with the promotion of a litigation executive.

Former nurse Nancy Steer is based in the PI department at the firm’s Truro office, and has been joined by personal assistant Lesley Sullivan.

Steer has had a colourful career, having worked as an interpreter for several years, living in Austria and Hong Kong. She later trained as a nurse where she worked at Charing Cross Hospital in London before moving into law.

Since completing her ILEX examinations with distinction, she has been promoted to litigation executive.

She said: “Coodes has a very good reputation and I was thrilled to have an opportunity to work in PI and to be able to combine my skills and knowledge.

“One thing I learned from nursing which has stood me in good stead is that illness does not respect age, class, race or character. Everyone is susceptible and the same is true of negligence.”

“The public is not always aware that local solicitors’ firms like Coodes handle PI and clinical negligence claims rather than a national company or insurance handler.

“I like the client contact part of my job and enjoy using my nursing experience as I can understand the medical reports and notes.”

Steer is joined by personal assistant Lesley Sullivan, who has moved to the PI team from Coodes’ Newquay office.

She said: “I’m enjoying working in a busy department with a variety of work. Coodes is a friendly firm and it’s good to be able to grow my experience in a different aspect of law.”

Bob Beard, head of the Coodes PI team, commented: “Nancy is a great asset for the firm because of her extensive experience in healthcare, while Lesley brings her experience of working within and organising a busy team.

“We have an excellent reputation for our work with personal injury and clinical negligence claims which is supported by years of specialist experience.”
