A conference facility in St Austell has invested £20k in new video technology to allow clients to connect with the world.

The team at St Austell Conference Centre, which is at the £6.2 million St Austell Business Park, made the investment following demand from customers.

The conference centre, which is based in Carclaze, has acquired two life-sized video conferencing systems, five HD TV screens, an Apple TV system, microphones and surround sound speakers.

In order the cope with demand the team is also recruiting for a conference centre duty manager and waiting and kitchen staff.

St Austell Conference Centre manager, Beth Mayman, said: “We’ve had a number of enquiries from clients wanting to access our facilities and superfast broadband to host video conferencing and meetings.

“We even hired in a system for an international lawyer who was on holiday in Cornwall to come in for a meeting with clients and colleagues in New York, Manila and London.

“With the increased demand, we felt the time was right to improve our already excellent offering.”

The purchase of the equipment has been funded with a 50% grant from the Business Investment for Growth (BIG) scheme.

During 2014 the Conference Centre team welcomed nearly 5,000 delegates through its door, while bookings grew by 262%.
