St Austell Brewery is launching a new apprenticeship in partnership with Cornwall College Business, which will prepare the next generation of publicans for the trade.

Cornwall College principal Dave Linnell with apprentice Kathryn Jewell.

The Licensed Hospitality apprenticeship is the only one of its kind in Cornwall and has been designed for individuals wishing to work in pubs, hotels and restaurants. It will provide young people with the necessary legal qualifications as well as valuable practical experience within the industry.

St Austell Brewery is now looking for interested applicants to attend an assessment centre, where the most committed and talented will be selected as a pool of star candidates to work in St Austell Brewery establishments across Cornwall.

Kathryn Jewell, 18, from Truro is about to complete a hospitality apprenticeship at the White Hart Hotel, St Austell through Cornwall College. Fiona Rundle, general manager at the White Hart said: “St Austell Brewery has long been committed to training and development of people in the hospitality sector. Recruiting apprentices like Kathryn allows us to give something back and pass on the knowledge and skills acquired during our years in the industry.”

Dave Linnell, principal and CEO of Cornwall College added: “The St Austell Brewery apprentices will be taking part in the only apprenticeship of its kind in Cornwall which focuses on the essential skills needed for the licensed hospitality trade. We are delighted to have been able to work in partnership with St Austell Brewery to develop this specific and valuable apprenticeship.”
