A local accountancy firm has extended its reach across the globe by employing a team based in the Philippines.

While the coronavirus pandemic has brought a focus onto remote working, Bodmin-based Cornish Accounting has taken the concept one step further by offshoring.

“Bodmin and Cornwall are beautiful places to live and work, but unfortunately not a hotspot of accountancy talent,” explained owner Paul Miller. “With Cornish Accounting growing 25% over the last year, this has made it harder to find the right people locally who share our passion for cloud accounting and client service excellence.”

As a result, Miller has expanded the team by employing three qualified accountants in the Philippines for certain tasks. This, he says “frees up their Bodmin-based staff to focus on delivering great client service every single day, rather than the traditional accountants’ approach of only being there for clients at the end of the financial year”.

Going forward, the team in the Philippines will complement and support the Cornish workforce which is also expanding.

Director Ant Miller added: “Our team based in Manila just absorb and have a thirst for knowledge. Their temperament and ability to understand difficult concepts quickly is a major strength to our team. Having them onboard will allow us to grow again by 25% next year.

“Of course, we still believe in supporting the local economy, so are still recruiting locally for people who have a passion for growing businesses and excellent client service.”
