Dan Rogerson MP has welcomed the news that Dairy Crest is to increase the price it pays for milk used at the Davidstow Creamery, near Camelford.

The company will increase the price by 1 pence per litre from November 1 to farmers on their Davidstow contracts.

North Cornwall MP Mr Rogerson also hailed Dairy Crest’s planned £45 million investment at the Davidstow site. The company plans to build a whey powder manufacturing plant alongside the existing cheese business.

The MP for North Cornwall, who also chairs the cross-party cheese industry group in Parliament, said: “The increase in the Davidstow milk price is very welcome given how much local milk goes into the production of the country’s leading cheese brand.

“Dairy Crest’s planned investment is also great news for the British dairy industry and will make a real difference to the local economy in north Cornwall in particular. I am really pleased that the business is choosing to invest at Davidstow which will help to create and sustain jobs in our area, both directly at the plant and in the local farming sector.
