Tourism leaders from across the UK will come together next month for a new event promoting ‘Tourism for Good’ and exploring triple bottom line thinking: people, planet and profit for the future the sector.

With rising energy costs, economic uncertainty and continued staff shortages, the hospitality sector is at a crossroads. But history has shown that the most successful businesses are those that can pivot quickly when faced with huge challenges.

Carefully curated, The Tourism Summit on November 23 will provide a range of inspirational thinkers and practical ideas from business and academia, helping attendees futureproof their businesses today, to sustain and improve them during difficult times.

Through a series of talks and workshops, The Tourism Summit will demonstrate how tourism businesses of tomorrow can be a force for good. They can be authentic, inclusive, sustainable and as a result – more profitable – all key themes at the event.

With many forward-thinking businesses in the UK becoming B Corp-certified and tourism organisations improving their Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) credentials, The Tourism Summit will provide inspirational speakers and practical guidance on why becoming a more ethical and sustainable tourism business will bring social and economic benefits.

The event includes future-facing talks, workshops and an interactive Q&A panel with confirmed speakers, Chris Hines, former sustainability director of the Eden Project, Will Higham, founder, Next Big Thing Consulting and Malcolm Bell, CEO of Visit Cornwall CIC, with more speakers to be announced.

The Tourism Summit takes place at Winslade Park in Exeter, a contemporary and inspirational venue providing the space and environment to discuss ground-breaking ideas, provoking discussion, and decisions now that will impact tomorrow’s tourism industry. Renowned chef, Matt Mason, will provide a local, seasonal lunch at the Winslade Park event, ensuring food miles are reduced.

Keynote speaker, Chris Hines, has worked and campaigned for the environment for 30 years and revels in inspiring positive change. He will make the case for sustainability, the growth of customer demand for ethical products and businesses, what you can do about it and how to grow a triple bottom line. His talk will also introduce B Corp as an accreditation for hospitality organisations to align priorities of people, planet and profit.

Clare Bushby, managing director at Clockwork Marketing, said: “We are very excited to bring together tourism leaders from business and academia to create a new event that, we believe, will be a catalyst for the future of the sector.

“With strong headwinds facing the tourism sector, we wanted to deliver a new type of tourism event that discusses sustainable ideas for future growth, alongside practical advice on how tourism businesses can quickly and easily transform themselves today. The Tourism Summit will provide this and much, much more.”
