Polraen Country House has used funding received from the Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Kickstart Grant Scheme to launch a new mobile friendly website in time for its reopening next month.
Owners, Gill and Martin Bridges, applied for the grant to support their business’ recovery from lockdown. The country house hotel B&B in the Looe Valley is due to reopen on May 17, now with the benefit of a new website specifically designed to encourage visitors to book direct.
Gill Bridges said: “Based on last summer’s experience, we knew that the huge demand for Cornwall meant we could expect to fill rooms by focussing on direct sales. Many visitors booking via online travel agents (OTA) are shocked to learn that 15% or more of their holiday accommodation spend is taken by the global giants in commission. Visitors would far rather their money was staying local.”
She continued: “We were thrilled to qualify for this grant via our involvement with the Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Growth Hub as our old website could not compete effectively in the online arena. Having lost so much of last season in lockdown, we couldn’t afford the investment ourselves but the grant came along at a perfect time.
The website was designed by Liskeard-based agency Mind’s Eye Design.
The Kickstart scheme is managed by Cornwall Development Company and delivered through the Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Growth Hub. It is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
