Two renowned Cornish hotels – The Alverton and The Greenbank – are remaining open for workers during this second lockdown.

While leisure bookings and hospitality will be closed, bedrooms are available in both Falmouth and Truro to all workers who need a room at a special rate.

MD, Ben Young, said: “Our experiences in the last lockdown showed that there was still a requirement for essential workers to have a place to stay. Last time round we donated 15 rooms to the NHS for the duration. This time round we are open on a reduced scale for those guests who are permitted to stay by law.

“Although we will probably lose out more financially by keeping several team members off furlough and remaining open on a vastly reduced scale, we believe that it is the right thing to provide these rooms for those who need them during this latest phase of the pandemic.”

For NHS workers, both hotels are charging £79 per night and for all other key workers and corporate guests, £89 per night, including a bagged breakfast.

Guests must demonstrate that they are permitted to stay be confirming with a corporate email and postal address, or by providing an NHS ID on check in.
