Visit Cornwall has announced its first major project since becoming a Community Interest Company by inviting tenders for the re-launch of its website.

The tourism service has plans to give its website a ‘mobile first’ transformation so that it continues to lead in the digital era and provide high-quality, targeted referrals to Cornwall’s tourism businesses.

The current site, which was launched in 2012, attracts over three million visits annually and has a number of award successes to its name, including Best Destination Website in the British Travel Awards and a shortlisting alongside the BBC in the British Interactive Media Awards.

Visit Cornwall is now challenging companies specialising in website design and build to present proposals which will exceed these successes and help Cornwall to stay ahead of other destinations, nationally and internationally.

Chief executive, Malcolm Bell, said: “It is very exciting to be on the cusp of such a significant development for us as a company, but also for the Cornwall tourism industry as a whole. Our current website has an incredible performance record but continuous improvement is the lifeblood of successful marketing.

“The possibilities are huge and I am looking forward to seeing the vision that website companies have for us.”

The deadline for proposals is noon on July 30 and the contract will be awarded at the beginning of September.
