A team of volunteers from holiday lettings agency Classic Cottages has been out in force to once again clean some of the Cornwall’s most beautiful beaches.

Ten members of staff from the Helston-based self-catering lettings company spent a day with Keep Britain Tidy’s beachcare co-ordinator, Neil Hembrow, at Church Cove on The Lizard, picking up litter from the beach.

The volunteering day was organised by Classic Cottages’ ‘Green Team’, which regularly gets involved with local conservation projects.

Volunteer Nicky Bennett from Classic Cottages, said: “The team collected 18 bags of rubbish during the beach clean, which was a staggering amount from one beach.

“We collected a huge amount of litter including flip-flops, dummies, rugs, wellies, and even a colostomy bag. Apart from looking unsightly and potentially deterring visitors, litter can be a health risk for beach users and local wildlife.”

Beachcare is a project run by Keep Britain Tidy which aims to reduce litter on our beaches by involving local communities.
