A new digital advertising campaign has launched today to raise awareness of Cornwall among the German market.

The campaign is a joint initiative between Visit Cornwall, Visit England, Newquay Cornwall Airport and the German airline, Germanwings, which has a direct route from Dusseldorf to Newquay.

With the aim to promote the air route prior to the German school holidays and ultimately drive visits to Cornwall, the digital advertising campaign will run across various German media platforms until mid-July.

As well as a German-language page on the Visit Cornwall website with sponsored links to various local tourism businesses, the campaign includes a competition to win a luxury short break in Cornwall worth £1k and Germanwings promotional offers.

The appropriately-named Julian German, Cornwall Council’s portfolio holder for economy and culture, commented: “Research shows that overseas visitors are keen to try a range of experiences while on holiday and so tend to stay for longer and spend more than domestic visitors.

“With Germany being Cornwall’s strongest overseas market, German visitors are therefore of great value to Cornwall and so this promotional burst at a key time has the potential to create a significant impact for our tourism industry.”
