A ten-week schedule of Sunday sailings has been announced for the Isles of Scilly passenger ship Scillonian III, to increase capacity during the peak summer season.
The Sunday sailings from Penzance to St Mary’s will begin on Sunday July 7, and continue throughout July and August until Sunday September 8. These sailings will be in addition to Scillonian III’s regular Monday – Saturday schedule, which runs from Monday March 25 until Saturday November 2.
Jeff Marston, chief executive of the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company, said: “By offering ten weeks of Sunday sailings in the peak summer season, we are demonstrating our commitment to supporting the communities of the Isles of Scilly by giving passengers the greatest possible flexibility for making travel arrangements.
“Customers travelling on Scillonian III will also benefit from the recent refurbishment of the ship, which is aimed at improving the travel experience for all of our passengers.”
Scillonian III left Penzance Dry Dock in February after undergoing a £2 million programme of refurbishments and winter maintenance, as part of the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company’s multi million investment into its travel resources.
Upgrades carried out include new flooring, new lighting, audio visual screens, new bathroom facilities and new catering facilities, with a café/bar and separate coffee shop operated by Coffee Republic.
Facilities for disabled passengers have been improved, with a new passenger lift installed that will give wheelchair users direct access to the main deck without having to use a stair lift, and a designated space for disabled passengers including access to a new disabled bathroom.
