Fal River success at Travel Awards

The team behind one of Cornwall’s leading tourism marketing initiatives is celebrating after scooping two awards at last night’s British Travel Awards.

Fal River Cornwall was awarded Silver for the Best UK Waterways and Lakes Boat Operator and Bronze for the Best UK Coastal Town, with the Fal River encompassing Falmouth, St Mawes and Truro.

Fal River Cornwall operates under Cornwall Ferries Limited and runs a fleet of classic ferries including the King Harry Ferry, St Mawes Ferry, Enterprise Boats, Smugglers Ferry, Place Ferry and the Falmouth Park & Float, as well as other marketing initiatives.

Cornwall Ferries managing director, Tim Light, said: “It’s fantastic to be recognised at the leading awards for tourism in the UK for the work we do.

“From our ferry crew to our Fal River Visitor Information Centre staff, we have a passionate, dedicated and committed team delivering outstanding results in our area of the industry.

“We work in partnership and collaboration with a range of different organisations and together we hope promote the Fal River as one of the UK’s premier destinations which in turn leads to a healthy boost across all areas of the local economy.”

The Fal River team are also behind the Fal Mussel Card travel and attraction passes that utilise the award-winning Fal River Links network.

Alongside this the Fal River marketing team work with more than 300 different organisations to promote Cornwall through a series of guide books, a destination website, social media and the Fal River Visitor Information Centre in Falmouth.

The team also run and coordinate the Fal River Festival in May and the Fal River Autumn Walking Festival in October and November.

Cornwall also enjoyed further success at the awards and was named Best UK Holiday County or Region, beating competition from the north in the form of the Lake District and Yorkshire.

St Ives won the Gold award for Best UK Coastal Town; the Eden Project, a Fal River Partner, was named the Best UK Attraction; and the Minack Theatre took the Bronze for the Best UK Heritage Attraction.

Visit Cornwall were top of the podium for the Best UK Visitor Guide Website for its new site, which was launched earlier this year.

Helpful Holidays, another Fal River partners, took Silver in the Best UK Cottage/Self Catering Booking Company.
